These Frozen Roasted Potatoes in Air Fryer are crunchy on the outside, and soft inside. They are a delicious way to eat ‘fried’ crunchy potatoes without the added deep-fried calories. They make a healthy side dish, or a great snack by themselves. Lunch box friendly, gluten-free, vegetarian, and big with fussy eaters, these golden potatoes are a great little comfort snack as well.

After using my air fryer for mostly meats, I have recently realized it can be used to cook virtually most vegetables perfectly. Like these Air Fryer Roasted Root vegetables, and Honey Roasted Air Fryer Carrots. These Roasted Air Fryer Potatoes are ready in 20 minutes. Add some frozen fish fillets, and frozen vegetables to create a one-basket complete meal.

Ingredients for Frozen Roasted Potatoes in Air Fryer

roast potatoes in air fryer

There is just one store-bought ingredient required here. A bag of frozen roast potatoes is prepped, seasoned, and roasted. I always buy multiple bags of these for the freezer for those busy nights (most nights!) and when I need some comfort food, without spending much time in the kitchen.

How to make Frozen Roasted Potatoes in Air Fryer

how to cook potatoes in air fryer
  • Arrange potatoes in one layer of your air fryer basket. There is no need to thaw potatoes, or pre-heat your air fryer.
  • Spread them around, so there is some gap between them.
  • If the air fryer basket is too small, air fry in multiple batches.
  • Air Fry for 360 F / 180 C for 10 minutes. Remove the basket, shake it, and continue air frying for another 10 minutes. If your potatoes are cut smaller, cook for just 5-6 minutes after shaking.
  • Add seasoning (if required) and garnish of choice.

Some Useful Tips

How to prevent air fryers from smoking?

Air fryers have a heating element and a fan at the top. Thanks to this downward-facing fan, hot air is rapidly circulated down through the air fryer basket. If there is grease accumulated at the bottom of the air fryer bowl, it will heat up and start smoking at a specific temperature. This smoke is then sent out through the air fryer exhaust vent, thus fogging up your kitchen. There are a few things you can do to prevent this.

  1. Clean out the grease: Remove the air fryer bowl and remove all the layers inside. Pour out the grease in your trash can (please do not pour grease down the kitchen sink). With a kitchen towel, wipe down the air fryer bowl, and clean other parts as well. If you have time, the basket and bowl can be washed with soap and warm water and wiped clean.
  2. Soak grease with bread slices: If you do not have time to clean the grease, just remove the air fryer basket, and place one layer of bread slices over the grease in the air fryer bowl. The bread will soak up all the grease and have less oil available to smoke up.
  3. Kitchen Exhaust: Keep the kitchen exhaust on high, and place the air fryer closer to the exhaust (away from the gas stove heating elements). This way some of the smoke will be sucked in by your kitchen exhaust. Although somewhat helpful, this method is not as efficient as the first one.

Can I put frozen potatoes in the air fryer?

Yes, you can! If the frozen potatoes are clumped together, just break them apart, and spread them around in the air fryer basket. You do not have to pre-heat the air fryer.

How to make frozen roast potatoes crispy?

Do not thaw the potatoes after removing them from the freezer. Add them straight to the basket. Another important tip is to not over-crowd the air fryer basket.

What do I serve these Air Fryer Potatoes with?

For a completely hands-free, one-batch meal, add frozen crumbed fish and frozen winter vegetables along with the frozen potatoes. This is truly a no-prep wholesome meal with hand-off cooking. Due to basket space, this will be a convenient meal for one. For larger quantities, air fryer food in smaller batches as it fits in your basket.

How to store cooked air fryer potatoes?

Fridge: Refrigerate for 3-4 days in an air-tight container. Before eating, crisp them up in the air fryer again for 3-5 minutes.

Freezer: Place in a freezer-safe container or freezer bags, label, and store for up to 3 months. To reheat, microwave for 90 seconds.
